Why Younis isn’t captain is a mystery to me: Akram

ISLAMABAD : Former Captain Pakistan team and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has expressed his surprise as why Younis Khan is not the captain of current Pakistan outfit.

“Why Younis Khan isn’t the captain of the side is still a big mystery to me. I don’t get it,” an Indian website indianexpress.com quoted him as saying on Friday.

Akram’s defence of Younis comes across as a significant opinion on Pakistan cricket, which is trying hard to recover after the national team crashed to a shocking 36-run defeat in the Sydney Test recently.

Younis, who had led Pakistan in the 2007 World Cup, saw his form dip thereafter, and he gave up the captaincy ahead of the Australia tour mainly because of a prolonged, pathetic showing with the bat.

While Akram also defended glovesman Kamran Akmal. “Let’s not criticise him for what happened in that match. He’s a good cricketer. I don’t think he deserves the criticism that he’s getting now,” he said.
