9- Protest in Indian Occupied Kashmir against student killing

In occupied Kashmir, at least 60 people were injured when Indian police resorted to brute force to disperse the demonstrators who were protesting in Srinagar against the killing in cold blood of a student, Tufail Ahmad Matoo, by the police on Friday.

According to Kashmir Media Service, thousands of people took to the streets in Habba Kadal, Nowhatta, Nawa Kadal, Nawab Bazar, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal, Safa Kadal, Parimpora, Batamaloo, Rambagh, Barzulla, Kathidarwaza and other areas of the city and chanted slogans like “We want freedom”, “We want justice”, “Pakistan Zindabad” and anti-India slogans. The police fired several teargas shells and resorted to baton charge, injuring mourners and photojournalists at Kathidarwaza. Of those injured a youth hailing from Safa Kadal sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

The residents of Parimpora told mediamen that police and CRPF personnel forcibly entered into residential houses, ransacked the household goods and harassed the inmates.

The inhabitants of Batamaloo said that CRPF and policemen beat up a youth to pulp. “He was beaten until he turned unconscious,” they said adding that two more youth also sustained injuries in the police and troops’ action.

Locals said that CRPF men went berserk at many places in Rainawari. “They smashed window panes of several houses and vehicles parked in the area,” they added.
In occupied Kashmir, the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and other pro-freedom leaders and organisations have strongly condemned the killing in cold blood of an 11th class student, Tufail Ahmed Matoo, by Indian police.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the APHC Chairman in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that withdrawal of troops was the only way to stop innocent killings and upholding basic human rights in the occupied territory. “Indian troops and agencies are killing innocent Kashmiri people with impunity,” he added.
