India bluffing global powers

US and Russia consider India as their Gimcrack copartner in the global affairs

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin concluded his two days visit of New Delhi on March 12, 2010. During this tour Putin spent most of the time to please his Indian counterpart while pretending his concern over regional security. However, Russian Prime Minister achieved successfully his sole interest to sell substandard nuke technology to India. Russia would be providing 12 nuclear reactors in addition to the armament, air craft carrier and MIG – 29 jets for worth more than $10 billion.

Russian authorities were also in the knowledge that in November 2009 Manmohan Singh has carried out visit of Washington. During that tour he tried to develop and strengthen Indian strategic ties with US and stressed American leadership to conclude already materialized nuclear deal with New Delhi. In fact, one of the interests of Singh visit to US was also to portray India as her trustworthy ally in GWOT, and at the same time convince US authorities to put her as Asian watchdog. India always endeavored to exploit Indo-Sino War 1962 and tried to have soft corner in American think tanks in containing China. Manmohan Singh also tried to persuade American authorities to permit Dalai Lama to visit US. But at this occasion, according to Indian think tanks due weightage has not been given to India over China.US and Russian serious security supervisors and political think tanks normally consider India as their Gimcrack copartner in the global affairs. India always bluffed both the global powers and their intelligence agencies too. American authorities are also very well aware of the facts that the Kremlin always counted India as its largest arms customer and a future partner in the nuclear industry. But in this context, KGB has some different believes about India. After collapse of Great Soviet Union, a KGB Agent has disclosed in his confidential report that Indian has transferred Russian nuclear technology to US. The media reports also confirmed that Indian scientists were happened to involve in transfer of Russian Nuclear Technology to US. In this connection, two American companies with the help of underworld used to carry out smuggling of enriched Uranium and special electronic equipment.

In the early part of 2010, India also carried out three days visit of Saudi Arabia to gain favour over her induction in OIC. She signed an extradition treaty and discussed energy and regional security during the Indian prime minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia. However, Saudi King Abdullah and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have discussed the Kashmir and Palestine Issues with Indian. Relable sources also revealed that still Saudi Arabia has not given any guaranty to favour India in getting membership of OIC. The analysis of the current Indian Premier tours of various countries and purchasing of lethal weapons clearly depicts that New Delhi is busy in regional arm race. Thus we can say that she is preparing for war that too nuclear war. Interestingly both spur powers has their main aim of containing China. Thus both atomic powers are supporting India against China just to sell their armaments. Russia supplies 70 percent of India’s military hardware but in recent years New Delhi has looked to other military suppliers including Israel and the United States. But India has in recent years tried to maintain the friendship and balance to this friendship by fostering closer relations with Washington.

Mountain ranges of Pakistan

Pakistan is home to many mountains above 7,000 metres (22,970 ft). Five of the fourteen eight-thousanders (peaks above 8,000 m) are in Pakistan, four of which are in Karakoram near Concordia.

Most of the high peaks in Pakistan are in Karakoram range, the highest of which is K2 (8,611 m), the second highest peak on earth. The highest peak of Himalayan range in Pakistan is Nanga Parbat (8,126 m), which is the ninth highest peak of the world.

RAW starts exporting terror to China

Islamabad—A credible source has revealed, on condition of anonymity, that an NGO has been established by Indian spy agency RAW in Badakhshan which persuades Chinese nationals to join. They will be subsequently trained and sent to the Chinese province of Xingjiang for creating instability. These Chinese nationals are believed to be the members of East Turkmen Independent Movement (ETIM) and are considered suitable for creating unrest in Northern china.

Other reports suggest that the Indian agents have categorically instructed their operatives in Afghanistan and elsewhere for maintaining close contacts with Al-Qaeda for their financial need for ETIM leadership. Pertinently mentioned that Indians have made ingress into camps reportedly established by ETIM in Northern and Southern region of Afghanistan. Moral, material and financial assistance is regularly provided by Indian trained operatives to strengthen and then launch ETIM members for Afghan soil against China.

It is widely believed that Indian intelligence operatives based in Afghanistan while taking advantage of the fragile situation have made concerted efforts to attract maximum Chinese dissidents by offering them widerange of incentives. They are being encouraged to target vital installations and high profile personalities in the Chinese province, including security forces.

The Indian persuasive efforts and training of Chinese dissidents are facilitated with the active support of Afghan intelligence. It is learnt that these trained Chinese dissidents will be sent to Xingjiang in the garb of businessmen through various routes to ensure their safe landing. India also aims to implicate Pakistani Taliban in these activities.

To this end Indians may produce fake identities and push these passport holders to china and later reveal it as proof of Pakistani origin Taliban involvement in Xingjing. This move is aimed at creating cracks in the friendly relationship between Pak-China. —PakObserver

Beware and play hardball

The much awaited – primarily by Pakistan – Pak-US strategic dialogue will begin today in Washington. The major players, including the COAS of Pakistan, are already gathered in that capital and are being feted like never before. The Americans are being clever by laying out the red carpet for their main Pakistani guests, including not putting them through the notorious scanners but getting their immigration done while they were still in the plane! Now that really is a first for the Yanks. The COAS is especially being softened, with Petreaus being a welcoming host offering military-style entertainment. The ridiculous grin on the face of one of the Pakistanis accompanying General Kayani in the official picture released by the US military says it all – and explains why the Americans think that if they make all the right PR moves before the dialogue, the Pakistanis will have been softened enough to take US dictation. And there will be plenty of hard demands put before the Pakistanis again – let us make no mistake on that count.

The issue for us, though, is that are the Pakistanis prepared to stay the course and stick to some basic demands that they need to make, or will we have a repeat of the Kerry-Lugar drama where our foreign minister effectively became an apologist for the Americans and sought to justify a most demeaning and intrusive piece of Pakistan-specific legislation? So what are the main issues Pakistan needs to focus on and demand a positive response from the Americans?

First, and a basic issue is for the US to deliver on all past outstanding commitments, some made immediately after 9/11 when Musharraf committed this nation to the US’s debilitating and erroneous “war on terror”. Amongst these unfulfilled commitments are: access to US markets especially for our textiles, payment of the Coalition Support Fund for services rendered primarily by the military and the whole ROZ drama which may actually be more costly for Pakistan in terms of conditionalities, so perhaps we need to do a rethink on this since the Americans have not moved yet on this project.

Today is, indeed, the day to rejoice as Pakistan Resolution was passed on 23rd March 1940, which was implemented on 14th August 1947. But it is also the day for introspection, self-accountability and evaluation as to how far we have been able to live up to the ideals set by the founding fathers. Quaid-e-Azam had envisaged a free, progressive, humane, and modern Pakistan, ruled by just laws, where everybody irrespective of religion, colour, creed or cast would be equal before law. Unfortunately, efforts were made to distort his speeches even when he was alive, and vested interest had tried to remove his 11th August 1947 speech before the Constituent Assembly from the record with a view to keep the nation in the dark, as it was the first official version of the Quaid.

In Pakistan, different schools of thought interpret Quaid-i-Azam’s speeches to serve their ends, but Quaid-i-Azam had envisioned Pakistan to be a modern progressive state, rooted in the eternal values of Islam, and at the same time responsive to the imperatives of constant change. President Pervez Musharraf, with the concept of enlightened moderation and by persuading the assemblies to pass laws for the empowerment of women and bringing the minorities into mainstream is emulating the Quaid, which his distracters do not like. In his Presidential address at the All India Muslim League session at Delhi on 24th April 1943 he outlined his vision about Pakistan: “I have visited villages; there are millions and millions of our people who hardly get one meal a day. Is this civilization? If that is the idea of Pakistan I would not have it”.

In the same speech he said: “A lot of mischief is being created. Is it going to be Islamic Government? The constitution and the government will be what the people will decide”. By going through the full text of speeches of the Quaid delivered on 24th April 1943 and 11th August 1947, one could find the guidelines and the parameters within which constitution of Pakistan was to be framed by the representatives of the people. The Quaid while giving reference of Islam and the Holy Book had wished to convey that he stood for an economic system based on true Islamic concept of equality, social justice and categorically stated: “Pakistan is not going to be a theocratic state”. Those religious parties that had opposed Pakistan wanted to implement their version of Islam which was at variance with the great majority of the Muslims.

Pakistan has all the ingredients to make it a modern progressive state. But where did we go wrong? Unfortunately, Pakistan lost its Quaid and other founding fathers too soon, and conglomerate of privileged few, feudals, bureaucracy and new-rich industrial robber barons devoid of political acumen and vision took over the state. The only redeeming feature is that Pakistan is now an atomic power, and its people and armed forces have the ability and guts to meet any challenge posed by internal and external enemies of Pakistan, and have the capability and the will to defend the integrity of Pakistan. But the problem is that many an element is out to create confusion. Though Pakistan has completed 63 years of its existence, we still are obliged to listen to the debate as to the purpose for which it was created.

In fact, the issue was debated for decades during the struggle for independence, and founding fathers were absolutely clear in their minds about the objectives for attaining an independent state for Muslims of the sub-continent. Quaid-i-Azam was a democrat, and he did not even think of imposing his will on people. When asked about the type of constitution Pakistan would have, he replied that the people’s representative would frame the constitution on the basis of guiding principles of Islam. Unfortunately, leaders of the religious parties that had opposed Pakistan were now exploiting masses in the name of religion, and insisted that everybody should accept their interpretation of Islam. In the words of President General Pervez Musharraf, the minority has taken the majority as hostage.

On 14th August 1947, we got rid of the colonialism but became fell a prey to neo-colonialism due to flawed policies of the various governments in the past, and had to depend on the West for our development and defence. The dependency syndrome was evident after 11th September 2001 events when Pakistan was coerced into altering its foreign policy. The internecine conflicts amongst political parties and lust of power of the politicians had resulted in three martial laws in 1958, 1968 and 1977, and another military dispensation in 1999. Unfortunately, the people were not treated any better during the tenures of democratic governments, and it was because of their conflicts that army had moved in. The reason being, degeneration had crept in every stratum of society, but the redeeming feature is that people of Pakistan have not lost hope; their spirit is alive and kicking, and their dream lives on. The question arises as to what should be done to rid the society of inertia and corruption? Can Plato’s managerial meritocracy help? It may hold good in services but political exigencies demand far greater than what is provided in that discipline. Leading the people in their pursuit of political freedom, self-governance, economic independence, evolution of a vibrant society and progress in the fields of science and art requires different category of leaders. Pakistan needs a type of leader that first believes in certain principles; he practices what he believes; he upholds those principles and is accepted as an exemplar for others. Such leadership reaches the hearts of the people and brings about psychological changes in their outlook towards life. It inspires them to unite with a view to transforming the society and changing the system for their social, material and spiritual well-being.

In Pakistan, barring a few honourable exceptions, most of the leaders lacked political acumen, leadership qualities and sense of direction that brought the country to the present pass. Pakistan today finds itself at the crossroads. To meet the internal and external challenges to its security, it is imperative that the nation is united. All and sundry should work to convert moribund society plagued by corruption, immorality, inertia, factionalism into a progressive, vibrant and dynamic organism brimming with vitality and creativity.

Allama Iqbal had given the clue as to how to go about it, and underscored the need to reinterpret Islamic thought and assimilate its eternal principles to overcome centuries-old stagnation with a view to launching the nation on the path to revival and build a future worthy of its glorious past. He had dreamt of Pakistan, and his dream became a reality when the nation found a leader like Quaid-i-Azam.

Pakistan Air Force employs air-to-air refuelling skill successfully

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Sunday employed air-to-air refuelling skill successfully thus attaining another milestone to prove itself ‘second to none’ as envisioned by Father of the Nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The attainment of the capability was a part of the on-going High-Mark-10 exercises kicked off a week ago. The first Air-to-Air Re-Fuller aircraft of Pakistan Air Force which had joined PAF in the mid of December-2009, today took active part in the exercises and ably re-fuelled two fighter aircraft in the PAF’s inventory, a senior officer of PAF said while talking to APP here.

The PAF is expecting delivery of three similar re-fuelling aircrafts by June this year. By virtue of its ability to refuel Air Defence aircraft in air, PAF’s overall capability in terms of its effectiveness to defend the airspace of the motherland has significantly enhanced, he said.

The area of exercise High Mark-10 is spread over the entire country from Skardu in the North up to the Arabian Sea in the South. The exercise has been tailored to include joint operations with extensive participation from Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy that would further enhance might to conduct joint operations amongst the three most essential services.
